Portrait of Alexandra Santos
Biography

About

With a journey shaped through different stages of her life, Alexandra began her musical training as a child, taking guitar and classical voice lessons, encouraged by her pianist mother. Over the years, her musical influences have ranged from the classical repertoire - including her passion for opera - to popular music. Despite pauses along the way, Alexandra has always regarded music as her primary form of expression.

After spending time in France, where she attended the Rachmaninoff Conservatory and continued her studies, Alexandra returned to Brazil determined to explore popular singing. It was during this period, while studying at CIGAM (Ian Guest Center for Musical Development), that her path crossed with guitarist Renato Alvim, who encouraged her to pursue a professional career in music. Together, they performed on numerous stages throughout the city of Rio de Janeiro and across the state.

It was also during this period that Alexandra recorded her first EP, a limited-circulation five-track demo CD featuring songs by renowned Brazilian artists such as Lenine, Secos e Molhados and Paulinho da Viola - a repertoire that was 'boldly Brazilian,' as Pernambuco radio host Christian Villarreal recalls. He owns one of the rare copies of the EP. 'I spent years listening to that CD, now on my phone, wondering where that voice was - the voice that carried me from a blues alley, through the streets of downtown Rio and, finally, to the palm-lined beaches of my homeland, always with that feeling of an embrace and tenderness, a little warmth in the heart.'

After a break from her music career, Alexandra was invited to take part in a charity project, where she had the opportunity to sing alongside talented musicians and rekindle her passion for music. It was in this setting that she met Didier Fernan, who would become an important creative partner.

Alexandra and Didier's collaboration gave rise to the album 'Hoje,' released in April 2024. The album features a carefully selected repertoire of previously unreleased songs, highlighting Alexandra Santos's distinctive vocal tone, as well as a new interpretation of the classic 'Pé do Meu Samba' (written by Caetano Veloso). The album also features a special guest appearance by Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo on 'Dói' (written by Evandro Navarro). It is available on all digital platforms, along with the music videos for 'Dói' and her rendition of 'Pé do Meu Samba.'

Following the release of 'Hoje,' Alexandra continued her work celebrating Brazilian music with the early-2026 release of the single 'Só Danço Samba,' the classic by Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, in a recording featuring special guest Roberto Menescal.

Also in early 2026, she released a six-track live EP, recorded during the album-release concert for 'Hoje' at Teatro Brigitte Blair in Rio de Janeiro, capturing onstage the atmosphere and sound that define her work.

Now, Alexandra opens a new chapter in her artistic journey with the release of the single and music video 'Fullgás,' by Marina Lima and Antônio Cícero, released on July 24, 2026. Featuring a bossa nova arrangement by Didier Fernan, this new version premiered during the 'Nossas Bossas' concert at Vinicius Bar in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, and is now available on all digital platforms together with the music video.

Directed by Nina Becker, with cinematography by Fernando Young, the music video is a tribute to Marina Lima and to the city of Rio de Janeiro - a gesture of gratitude for the inspiration both bring to Alexandra Santos's artistic universe, expressed through this new interpretation of 'Fullgás.'
